Once a month we met on a Tuesday and invited the 20 or so yoga teachers to share openly about where they needed support.
Yoga can be such an isolated career, and often we think that we alone are strugglingwith certain challenges, frustrations or obstacles.
Over time, as we talked together we all learned the same lesson: our fears and insecurities are very similar even though we usually think they are unique to us.
As teachers we often think we have to have it all together. We hold ourselves to an unrealistic standard and then (surprise!) feel like we can never measure up.
Perhaps you don’t feel spiritual enough, knowledgeable enough, acrobatic enough, intelligent enough or attractive enough to really make it as a teacher —and believe me, when you venture into teaching privates this can really get amplified!
Essentially we are putting ourselves out there as a one-on-one guide on the yoga journey of our potential clients.
And asking to be well-paid in the process!
Well, la di da….. right?!
So here’s a suggestion:
Stay in touch with what you love about yoga, with what you have learned, healed from, with how you have grown on the mat.
Stay in touch with the positive feedbackyou received in teacher training and from friends, family and students since you started teaching.
Most of all, be you —teach what you are most comfortable with, passionate about and confident in sharing!
Yea, keep studying, keep getting better, keep growing. But also know that right now you are already much more than good enough, and you have so much to share.
Your ideal private students are already looking for what you have to offer!
