I don’t know about you, but I grew up in the old media model of marketing and advertising:
Companies with products to sell tried to persuade whomever would listen to buy from them through radio, TV and newspaper ads.
But today we live in a different business world: the Internet has made it possible for anyone to have a website and reach out to specific people already interested in specific services, like private yoga.
Think about it:
10 years ago, how many people did you know who actually had a website? Now everyone does.
So these are the three myths I want you to start to move past:
1) Marketing is always fake and cheesy!
Maybe in the old model.
But today YOU can be authentic. Just write about what you love and why, and reach out to people already interested and looking for what you have to share.
2) Marketing is annoying and uninvited.
Sure, when it is random!
But what you are going to do as you build your career is invite interested people who like you to:
* sign up for your email list
* follow you on social media, and
* be notified if and when you write blog posts or make videos.
That is a totally different situation!
These people want to hear from you, and are interested in what you have to say.
As you grow your community, theses are the people who are going to want to take your workshops and go on your retreats.
If you don’t get comfortable using the many free marketing tools at your disposal in this bold new world to communicate with them, you are shooting yourself in the foot!
3) Really good teachers don’t have to use marketing, they just succeed —I don’t wanna seem desperate and 2nd rate.
Successful teachers market successfully, and stay in touch with their community in authentic, fun and positive ways, without being afraid to promote their events, products or services to an interested audience.
Keep it real and friendly, personal and sincere and your students will always be happy to hear from you…..
And here’s a little secret: no one opens an email they don’t want to read, so don’t worry so much!
